Average Reader

Few days ago I was wondering why so many protagonist are so stereotypical?

Writers almost always choose their main character to be included if few categories: "normal but special", "the chosen one", "shy, hurt and broken", "sarcastic, damage and vigilante".

And I asked myself "why?".

Why most stories include protagonists that are an example of these troupes?

It's weird that people who are "normal" appear to be naive and uninformed.
It's almost like average person in the mind of author can't perform as a lead character.
And I don't really know why is that?

I thought that author wants to convince the audience, that they have something in common with a protagonist.

And isn't the average person be an example of an average reader?

And that were I think the problem lays.

Even though reading is available to almost everyone, true readers are still a really small group.

And a reader doesn't think of themselves as an average person they connect with someone unique, that isn't example from a real life.

Someone who didn't reach their full potential.
